Brother and third-party ink or toner
Brother publishes warranty and quality statements, not a lock list.
Brother's statements
- Laser: Brother recommends genuine drum units and toner, says some non-genuine supplies may harm print quality or cause the machine to malfunction, and says its limited warranty does not apply to damage caused by third-party drum units or toner. Brother FAQ
- Inkjet: Brother recommends against generic or refilled ink cartridges, says doing so may affect performance, and that repairs for damage caused by incompatible products may not be covered by warranty. (That answer lists older DCP/MFC inkjet models.) Brother USA FAQ
These are warranty and quality statements. They do not say that any Brother model blocks third-party cartridges, and we have not found a Brother document that does. Users report differences by firmware; we do not use forum reports as sources.
No per-model status or cartridge data for this brand in v1: we only publish figures a maker documents per model, and have not found such a document. Looking for HP? See the HP models.
