Will my printer refuse third-party ink?
Type your printer model to see whether HP lists it as a Dynamic Security printer, what HP itself says you can do about it, and which cartridge numbers fit. Every answer links to HP's own document.

What the labels mean
- Blocks non-HP chips On HP's Dynamic Security list. HP says these printers can block cartridges with a non-HP chip. Cartridges that reuse an original HP chip are unaffected.
- Firmware update can remove it On HP's list, but HP's support document says a firmware update turns Dynamic Security off for the whole series.
- Firmware fix: older units only HP's document says the fix covers only printers made before 1 December 2016.
- Unverified Not on HP's 2021 list and HP publishes no per-model status since. We don't guess. Read what Dynamic Security is.
Other brands
Epson, Brother and Canon do not publish per-model lock lists that we could find. Their own statements are on the Epson, Brother and Canon pages.
